Deacon Fernando Mezquita Deacon Fernando was born in San Pedro, California and grew up in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. He was educated in Mexico’s public schools and attended California State University, Long Beach, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer science and Engineering in 1983. He is married to Elvia Socorro Ortiz of Somerton, Arizona since February 1986, and they are the proud parents of Fatima, Dania and Fernando Junior.
On May 11, 1996 Deacon Fernando was ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Manuel D. Moreno in Yuma, Arizona for the service of the Diocese of Tucson, Arizona. Deacon Fernando served as the spiritual director for the Cursillo movement in the Diocese of Tucson has also been involved in Catholic charismatic renewal since 1988. Since that time he has led parish-based prayer group meetings, and participated as a guest speaker in conferences, retreat weekends and inner-healing retreats. He has also been involved in a family prayer support ministry and material/spiritual support of substance abuse rehabilitation centers.
He moved with his family to Orange County and was assigned by Bishop Brown to our parish in May 2009.
